Kai and Rowan pose on a little rocky bit on the Deer Creek trail. Posted by Picasa

Resting on the Nature Trail

We took a nature walk at Deer Creek Canyon. Theo makes sure that Kai is not making a Calvin face for the picture. Posted by Picasa

Rowan took this picture also. I call it "Un papillon avec les ordures" or "A butterfly with the garbage." We were both very excited to see that we could see the butterfly so well. The JamCam is a rather primative camera. Posted by Picasa

Rowan took a picture of me taking a picture of a funnel web spider (you can see it if you look diagonally down from my last knuckle). This picture was taken with his JamCam digital, ultra tough camera. Posted by Picasa

Here's Rowan observing and preparing to photograph a cranefly with his JamCam. My dad and I are thinking about epoxying a ring so he could put a macro lens or filter on there. See one of his other spots herePosted by Picasa

During the hike, I attempted to stalk the wild Kai. Okay he's not that wild, but he does make silly faces if he knows I'm pointing a camera at him. I used my telephoto to get this one. All the others in the series had Kai making goofy faces. Either he's psychic or he's just naturally a face maker. Posted by Picasa

It was one of the hottest days on record -- one of the reasons we decided to go to the mountains today. I thought Kai would be dying in that long-sleeved, high-collared shirt and long pants, but decided to let him figure it out. We had plenty of sunblock and a pair of swim trunks in the car if he got really hot. It turned out he was the only one who got away moderately unscathed from the biting flies. I felt pretty silly and itchy in my shorts and t-shirt. Posted by Picasa

Did I mention that Rowan really knows how to get dirty? He cleans up pretty good though. ;) Posted by Picasa

This trip Rowan and Kai carried all their own water up the mountain. I was quite impressed. Rowan put his inside his backback. Posted by Picasa

We went back to Forgotten Valley today to have lunch. Here's a view of the pond that the boys call "The Lake of A Hundred Damselflies". I think there are more likely a million-zillion.

Our insect repellant worked great on the mosquitoes but had no noticable effect on biting flies. Ouch. The Park Ranger says the flies start biting for a week or so every year about this time. They certainly weren't out last Sunday. Posted by Picasa

In case you were at a loss trying to identify the subject of this photo, it's a tree stump. Doesn't it look like Han Solo's trapped inside? Posted by Picasa

Because of the fill-in flash I used, Kai almost looks like he's posing in front of a movie special effects green screen. Really, he was right there with us. Posted by Picasa

Rowan in the hat. Posted by Picasa

Another view of Forgotten Valley (and the ongoing MegaMen(tm)'s battle for the fate of the universe). Here you can see the abandoned homestead buildings. The ranch was founded in 1876 and four generations subsequently lived there.  Posted by Picasa

Forgotten Valley

The boys played with their MegaMen(tm) when we reached Forgotten Valley in Golden Gate State Park. Posted by Picasa

The boys at a kids' area in the Denver Museum of Art. Here they put together modular chairs and then decorated the chairs with chalk.

I liked this as a photo; one of my successful low-light, slow shutter, people pictures. I like Rowan's focus emphasized by Kai's motion. Posted by Picasa

Whoa, a picture of me with Dad and Rowan. Where did this come from? Posted by Picasa

I like this one too. I didn't know it at the time, but Kai wasn't feeling very well at the time this photo was taken. Posted by Picasa

I like this photo. Posted by Picasa

A little walk by Daniel's Park. Posted by Picasa

This was some fort game with walls and balls and catching and throwing. I think it was Calvin Ball ver 2.3 using the Piccadilly Circus Alternative Rules. Posted by Picasa

Lola says, "Yes, I know I'm beautiful." Posted by Picasa

I'm a little late with this set, but here they are. :) This is from Dad and Pris's visit back at the end of May. Here they are with Lola at Dry Creek Park. Posted by Picasa
